Class Rules and Procedures
Rules:
1. Come to class on time and get right to work.
2. Be prepared. Bring everything you will need to class.
3. Listen and follow directions the first time they are given.
4. Respect other people's opinions and other people's work.
5. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. Do not touch things that do not belong to you. My desk is strictly off limits.
6. Follow all classroom procedures and school rules.
Procedures:
1. All homework should be turned in by the due date. I do not accept late homework unless you have an excused absence. Special projects may be turned in late if you make arrangements with me ahead of time. They will lose 10% per day late. All assignments should be turned in to the box for your class or emailed to me. If you email me an assignment, please turn in a piece of paper with a full heading that tells when you sent it.
2. You’ll have time at the beginning of class to complete bellwork (vitamins, etc.) if you don’t finish by the time I start class, you’ll need to make it up on your own time.
3. Please make sure any work that you turn in to me is proofread to be free from spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors. I do take off points for mechanics errors. Vitamin mistakes will result in a five-point deduction per vitamin.
4. Any kind of plagiarism will result in a zero for the assignment. Ability to redo the assignment for half credit will be at my discretion.
5. Be prepared to revise your writing. No writing is ever perfect. Even Shakespeare revised.
6. Computer use will be strictly monitored. Only class-related computer use will be permitted. Any misuse of computers will result in negative consequences as spelled out in the handbook and loss of computer privileges.
7. DO NOT ask to leave the room while I am right in the middle of something, and do not leave the room without permission. If I can hold it, so can you. You will have three hall passes per nine weeks, so use them wisely. Classroom misbehavior or misuse of hall passes will result in loss of pass privileges for the quarter.
8. When you enter the classroom, walk quietly to your desk, sit down, and start copying the Vitamin. Get to work even before the bell rings. You will not have a lot of time to complete the bell work.
9. If you are not in your seat when the bell rings, you are tardy. You must have a pass to be excused. Bring your pass in and give it to me silently; then take your seat and get started on whatever we are doing. Bellwork missed must be made up. See handbook for tardy policy.
10. When the bell rings, sit silently and gather up your stuff. You may leave when I dismiss you.
11. If you need a pencil, paper, etc., there are extras in the blue baskets next to my desk. Use what you need and put it back when finished. Once those baskets are empty, I will not refill them. Dictionaries, thesauri, and MLA stylebooks may not leave the room.
12. Indicate whether or not you understand! PLEASE! Look at me, nod, say "yes," or some other gesture when you understand. If you don't, SAY SO!
13. When I need you to come to attention, I will stand at the front of the room and raise my hand. When you see this, STOP, turn to face me and sit silently. Put down all materials and await instructions.
14. When you are absent, check the syllabus online for missed assignments. If you need something from me, please see me before or after school or on my free period (4B). Put any late assignments in the late box with the assignment and the date turned in clearly marked. You have one day to make up any work.
15. When working in groups, listen to the directions before the group activity starts--take notes if necessary. Don't move until I tell you to. If I call for attention, STOP IMMEDIATELY.
16. You may only go to the office if I send you or if it is an emergency.
17. The schedule for the class will be on the weekly syllabus on the website. Check it often.
18. Never leave the room without permission. When moving around the room, always go directly where you need to go and straight back to your desk --no wandering, running, touching things that don't belong to you, touching or bothering people, or talking.
19. Headings on papers should include your full name, date, grade, class, period, and assignment. No exceptions. This includes emailed papers.
ex. Joe Schmoe

English 301 1st period
Compare/contrast essay final draft
Please make sure it is legible. Add the word LATE and the date turned in if it is a late or makeup paper. Papers without names or proper headings will be put in the no-name box ungraded. It is your responsibility to claim them and turn them back in with late penalties.
20. When you finish early, find something else to do. Don't sleep, talk, or cause trouble.
21. If we get interrupted, go back to your seat if necessary, sit quietly, and wait for instructions. If you have work in progress, go ahead and get back to work.
22. If there is a fire, tornado, or other drill, STOP, sit silently, and wait for instructions--then follow them quickly and quietly.
23. If you are suddenly ill, raise your hand with four fingers up and then go to the bathroom. Don't wait for me to tell you to go.
24. When I am out of the classroom, continue as usual. You should always have something to do.
25. If I am absent, follow all the classroom rules and procedures. Be kind and helpful to the sub, and remember that he or she may not know all the procedures.
