Responsibilities in the Writing Workshop
This year you will be taking part in a writing workshop.
As in any class, you will assume various responsibilities. To ensure a
successful experience in the writing workshop, you should:
- Maintain a writing folder in which you will keep your
writing.
- Bring your writing folder to class each day.
- Come to class each day ready to write.
- Find and develop topics for your writing.
- Be willing to try new kinds of writing.
- Do your best to learn the rules of written English.
- Accept the responsibility of completing pieces.
- Be willing to try new techniques, methods, and strategies
to improve your writing.
- Be willing to work with your peers in the learning of
writing skills and strategies.
- Behave properly. This means following directions and
not disturbing others. Take pride in your work and produce the best work
you can.
- Grow as a writer.

Rules for Working in Groups
To help make sure that your group works productively,
follow these points:
- Every student should participate in the sharing of ideas.
- Speakers should think about the points they wish to make
before speaking.
- After stating their points, speakers should give the floor
to someone else.
- Group members should listen politely to others.
- The discussion should be about the assigned topic.
- Questions should be appropriate and on topic.
- Listeners should not interrupt speakers. If they have
questions, they should ask after the speaker is done.
- If a listener disagrees with a speaker, he or she should
explain why in a calm, clear manner.
- Comments
should always be positive and constructive.
