MINUTES OF THE WAIVER HEARING OF THE PAXTON-BUCKLEY-LODA COMMUNITY UNIT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 10 BOARD OF EDUCATION OF FORD, CHAMPAIGN, VERMILION, IROQUOIS, AND LIVINGSTON COUNTIES OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS HELD WEDNESDAY, MARCH 14, 2007 AT 7:00 P.M. AT THE PAXTON-BUCKLEY-LODA BOARD ROOM IN PAXTON, ILLINOIS.

 

President Mike Short called the waiver hearing to order at 7:00 p.m.

 

Upon roll call, the following board members answered present:  Dawn Bachtold, David Dowling, Jeff Jarboe, Mike Short, Phillip Duling, Shawn Young, and Dean Swan. 

 

Others present were Andy Bennett, Jeff Graham, Trent Eshleman, Cliff McClure, John Rawdin, Stan Daro, Amy Teske, Tara Tighe, Marilyn Weber, Marvin Barger, Christine Williams, Barry Wright,  Rick Brackmann, Diane Kaiser, Bob Maney, Joe Meyer, Noelle Meyer, Dave Harber, and Don Kier.

 

Mr. McClure advised the Board that the District is requesting an approval for modification in Section 5/24-2, Holidays, of The School Code of Illinois.  The requested modification is for not scheduling February 12, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012, Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, as a legal holiday as specified in The School Code of Illinois. The requested modification will allow the Paxton-Buckley-Loda CUSD No. 10 to use this day as an attendance day enabling the school to address the intent of this mandate through planned activities for all students in all schools designed to teach the history of Lincoln’s life and historical contributions. 

 

At this time, Mr. McClure requested to hear any testimony either for or against the requested modification or waiver, and there was no reply from those in attendance.  No written or verbal testimony was given by educators or the general public at the waiver hearing.

 

Mr. McClure advised the Board that Mr. Daro, PBLEA President, received his notification and that the notification was also sent to the area legislative leaders in the community.   Mr. McClure stated the District is asking approval for a five (5) year waiver.

 

Dean Swan moved to adjourn the waiver hearing.  Dave Dowling seconded the motion.  Upon roll call, all members present voted aye, there being no nay votes the motion carried.
