Please do not send your child to school if you suspect he/she may be ill (fever over 100, severe stomachache, vomiting, diarrhea, heavy cold and hacking cough, unknown rash or intense itching). Please notify the classroom or van driver if your child is not attending. Please also notify us if your child contracts a contagious disease so that we may inform other parents of possible contact. If your child becomes ill while at school, you will be notified. Please have arrangements made ahead of time in case your child does have to come home early due to illness. If your child has allergies or any other medical problem, please make sure we know about it.
We will be going on field trips throughout the school year. You will be notified through the newsletter/calendar or a note. Most of our trips will be within Paxton. We will either walk or take the van. Our class goes to Heartland Health Care each week to visit the residents. While there we do an activity and have a snack with the residents.
Special Programs On the second Wednesday of the month McGruff the crime fighting dog and his helper from Prairie Center visit the students. McGruff uses stories and music to teach safety lessons. Some topics include bike safety, fire prevention, and just say no to drugs. On the third Wednesday of the month Ellen Luhman from the Ford-Iroquois Cooperative Extension comes to teach nutrition. Both of these visitors usually leave a handout for the children to take home. Please go over these with your child and ask him/her what he/she learned. On the fourth Wednesday Anne Newman from the Paxton Carnegie Library comes and tells stories with books, the flannelboard, and her puppets.
Volunteers Parents are welcome to volunteer in the classroom. If you would like to help, please let me know. If you cannot help in the classroom, but would like to volunteer, please let me know. There are things that can be prepared at home that parents can help with.
