2006 Sangamon Valley Conference
Principals’ Minutes
March 2, 2005
1. The meeting started at 8:25, all schools were present except Tri Point who arrived at 9 am.
2. The Principals discussed the applications of Momence, Unity and Donovan as members for the 2006-07 school year. After discussion the following motions were made:
a. Mr. Rabideau of Clifton Central made a motion, seconded by Mr. McKenzie of St. Joseph-Ogden to accept Donovan as a full member in the 2006-07 school year. The motion failed 5-3 (6 votes were needed to add schools to the SVC). The following schools voted yes: Iroquois West, PBL, St. Thomas More, Tri Point and Watseka. The following schools voted no: Clifton Central, CPCI and St. Joseph-Ogden.
b. Mr. McKenzie of St. Joseph-Ogden made a motion to accept Unity (Tolono) as a member in 2006-07 in all sports except football. Mr. Hennessey of St. Thomas More seconded the motion. The motion failed 3-5. The following schools voted yes: Paxton-Buckley-Loda, St. Joseph-Ogden and St. Thomas More. The following schools voted no: Clifton Central, CPCI, Iroquois West, Tri Point and Watseka.
c. Mr. Buchanan of Watseka made a motion to accept Momence as a full member in the 2006-07 school year; Momence currently is a partial member in football only. Mr. Pearson of Tri Point seconded the motion. The motion passed 8-0.
d. Mr. Rabideau of Clifton Central made a motion that the SVC would not consider any future expansion of the SVC until the fall of the 2006-07 school year for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 cycle. Mr. Buchanan of Watseka seconded. The motion passed 9-0.
3. Executive Secretary John Overstreet informed the Principals that the Athletic Directors were meeting this Friday March 4, 2005 at the Caddyshack in Rantoul to work out schedules for the 2006-07 and 2007-08 cycle to include Momence. During the 2006-07 and 07-08 cycle, there will be one 9-team division with each school playing each other once in volleyball, boy and girl’s basketball. These three sports would continue to have a conference tournament in the same weeks as presently played. SVC schools would play each other twice in softball and baseball. Dates for SVC track and other sports will also be discussed.
4. Executive Secretary John Overstreet was instructed to prepare possible modifications in the SVC Constitution and By-Laws to reflect changes that have and will be occurring. These will be posted online in the near future for the Principals’ review.
5. The next meeting of the 2006 SVC Principals will be held in early May 2005. An exact date, time and site will be posted later.
6. The meeting adjourned at 10:10 am.
