Minutes Athletic Directors Meeting Wednesday April 30, 2008

 

1.  The calendar for the 2008-09 school year was reviewed.  The 2008 meet will be held and Shewami Golf Course, with Watseka as the host.  Other meeting sites were also set.

 

2.  The Athletic Directors discussed the possibility of developing a JV baseball schedule in conjunction with the varsity schedule.  No action was taken and this will be discussed further.

 

3.  Football schedules/officials for the 2008 and 2009 seasons were reviewed.  Officials will be contacted by John Overstreet and then schools should make sure they have contracts with the officials for the games listed.   Also it was decided to have John Overstreet contract 4 crews for each week in the 2010 and 2011 seasons, with final assignments being made later.

 

4.  The Athletic Directors recommend to the Principals to switch the week of the girl’s basketball tournament beginning in 2008-09 school year from week 28 (January 12-17) to week 29 (January 19-24) This is recommended to align the SVC tourney with the HOIC/Mclean County and Vermilion County tournaments to allow for SVC schools to be able to schedule non conference games in week 28.  This change will require St. Joseph-Ogden and St. Thomas More to change home games during week 29 to free up their gyms for the girl’s tournament. 

 

5.  The Athletic Directors discussed the possible by-law changes concerning juniors.  Their recommendation to the Principals is to allow juniors to play in sophomore games upon mutual agreement between the coaches and schools.  (proposed by-laws with modifications)

 

6.  The Athletic Directors also recommend changing the wording in Article VIII Section 1.  This section concerns the procedure if a game is not considered a complete game.  The current language states the SVC will follow IHSA “rules” for spring baseball/softball.  The proposed change will replace the word “rule” with “Terms and Conditions  Under current IHSA Terms, page 3, VIII D 1,  it states that any game not considered a complete game, is considered a suspended game and will be resumed from the point of suspension. (proposed by-law)

 

7.  The Athletic Directors will meet on Wednesday May 14th to finalize the girl’s basketball switch and football schedules.
