Minutes

Wednesday December 8, 2004

 

 

1.  All Schools were present.

 

2.  A discussion was held on the Girls and Boy’s Basketball Tournaments:

 

Seeds for the girl’s tourney will be posted on Tuesday December 21, 2004

 

In case of ties, head to head will break the tie.

If a tie still exists, total points allowed in conference games will break the tie.

If a tie still exists, John Overstreet will flip a coin.

 

The tourney will be held on:

 

Saturday January 8, 2005 starting at 3:30---all games (4) are in Paxton.

Monday January 10, 2005 2 games at either Paxton of Gibson City

Wednesday January 12, 2005 2 games at either Paxton of Gibson City

Thursday January 13, 2005 2 games (semi finals) at Paxton

Saturday January 15, 2005 4 games at Parkland starting at 3:30

 

Seeds for the Boy’s tourney will be posted on Wednesday January 19, 2005.

Saturday January 29, 2005 starting at 3:30---all games (4) are in Paxton.

Tuesday February 1 2005 2 games at either Paxton of Gibson City

Wednesday February 2, 2005 2 games at either Paxton of Gibson City

Friday February 4, 2005 2 games (semi finals) at Paxton

Saturday February 5, 2005 4 games at Parkland starting at 3:30

 

There will be limited hospitality room on the first Saturday of each tourney.  There will not be a hospitality room at Parkland.

3.  A possible shootout between the SVC and the new Heart of Illinois was discussed.  Mr. Bowers of Blue Ridge will discuss this with the schools in the Heart of Illinois and Illinois Wesleyan University—the possible site for the shootout in the first year.  A possible date would be December 1st and 2nd of 2006.  Not all schools would play in each two-year cycle.  It was discussed to make this a varsity boy and girl shootout at the same time.  Pairings would be made based on school’s regular season schedules to match up teams that do not play each other.  More information will be posted and shared, as it is available.

 

4.  The Athletic Director recommended that the Sangamon Valley Conference donate $200 to create a door prize at the IADA State Convention next spring in Peoria.  Several conferences do this and would be good public relations for the SVC. 

 

5.  A discussion of the IHSA Public/Private Task Force was held.  Remind your Principal to complete the survey online at www.IHSA.org and to vote in the balloting for By-law amendments.  Both are online through the school center. 

 

7.  Mr. McKean of Cissna Park urged the Athletic Director to write/lobby the IHSA about changing the nights that seed meetings are held back to Wednesday night to avoid games nights, this is especially true in volleyball and girl’s basketball, whose meetings are held on Monday nights—typical game nights.

 

8.  John Overstreet informed the Athletic Director that this spring the baseball and softball regionals would begin on the Monday and Tuesday instead of later in the week.  These are nights that some schools schedule games to prepare for the tourney—those games may have to be cancelled.  The reason for the change by the IHSA is to get the regionals done before Memorial Day weekend.

 

9.  Mr. McKean explained the circumstances as to why CPCI was placed on probation by the IHSA concerning their “breach” of contract with Williamsville.  Last year CPCI informed Williamsville that they wanted to leave their holiday tourney, it was agreed if CPCI could get a replacement there would be no breach of contract.  Last Friday CPCI got Buckley Christ Lutheran to replace them, but the IHSA Board of Directors met on Monday and placed CPCI on probation without the knowledge that a replacement had been found. Mr. McKean hoped that CPCI would be removed from probation in the near future.

 

10.  A few schedule changes were made in the master SVC schedule. Please refer to the SVC page for the changes.
