Athletic Directors’ Minutes 

Wednesday February 4, 2009

 

 

1.  The Athletic Directors reviewed the remaining 2008-09 Calendar   The next AD meeting will be on Wednesday March 4th in Paxton at 8:45.  

 

A site for the All Conference meeting and dinner will be set at either Shagbark or another site.

 

The Honor Band is in Momence this year.

 

The SVC track meet is in Paxton on Monday May 11th at 2 pm

 

2.  The Treasurer’s Report was discussed. 

 

3.  The Athletic Directors discussed the 2009 Volleyball Tournament (format)  and will recommend to the Principals to change of the dates to Wednesday Oct 21, Thursday Oct 22 and Monday Oct 26.  This will avoid any conflict with the ACT.

 

4.  Review/Discuss Girl’s Basketball Tournament (future sites)—Financial report—past years

 

The Athletic Directors discussed the tournament and the fact the tourney lost money for the first time in years.  (see the report).   Most agreed that overall attendance is down for all sports and some of that is due to the economy.  The SVC Treasurer’s Report shows that the conference may not have enough money to offer scholarships this year, unless the boy’s tourney makes a good profit.  Upcoming expenses were discussed—(Honor Band, SVC Track meet awards and expenses, Spring sports trophies, All Conference/All Academic certificates)

 

Options discussed were to charge more for dues, charge entry fees into some activities, drop the tournaments and getting “corporate sponsors” to pay some expenses of the tournaments.

 

5.  The Athletic Directors reviewed the Boy’s Basketball Tournament.

 

6.  Discuss All Conference Meeting—see #1

 

7.  Discuss SVC Track Meet-see #1

 

8.  A discussion was held on the Possible Sportsmanship Policy that the SVC is looking into.

 

9.  A reminder of the SVC All Star Basketball game between the SVC and the HOIC was given.  The game will be played in Gibson City on Friday March 27, 2009.  WGCY is in charge of game and will be sending more information later to the schools.  Possible by-laws for selection of the team will be presented to the Principals at their February 11th meeting.

 

10.  Athletic Director were reminded to send John Overstreet their future football schedules.

 

11.  Pay for officials was discussed.  The survey online will be changed to ask what schools plan on paying next year for officials.
