Minutes March 12, 2008 Meeting held at the Tea Room in Paxton.

 

 

1.  Call meeting to order at 8:25 am

 

All schools were present

 

2.  Approve Minutes of February 13, 2008 meeting.

 

Mr. Buchanan of Watseka made a motion, seconded by Mr. Millage of St. Thomas More to approve the minutes of the February 13, 2008 meeting as presented.  The motion carried unanimously.

 

3.  Approve the Treasurer’s Report

 

Mr. Rawdin of PBL made a motion, seconded by Mr. Hawkins of Iroquois West to approve the Treasurer’s Report as presented.  The motion carried unanimously.

 

4.  Calendar update

 

The remaining 2007-08 calendar was discussed.  A tentative calendar for 2008-09 will be presented at the April meeting.

 

5.  Discuss SVC Track Meet

 

The meet will be held in Paxton on Tuesday May 6th at 2 pm. There will be a coaches meeting at 1:15.  More information will be posted later.

 

6.  Review-Honor Chorus

 

The Concert was held Monday March 10th in Paxton, according to the Principals it was an excellent concert.  The only concern was the changing start time from 7:00 to 7:30.

 

 

7.  Discuss Girl’s & Boy’s Basketball

 

A discussion was held concerning the boy’s and girl’s basketball tournaments. 

 

After reviewing the Athletic Directors’ Recommendations, Mr. Buchanan made a motion to accept the recommendations as presented, the motion was seconded by Mr. Miller of Crescent Iroquois.  Upon a roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously.

 


 

8.  Discuss 2008 Volleyball Tournament

 

The 2008 volleyball tourney will be held in Paxton on Thursday and Saturday.  Future sites or rotation will be discussed at the April Athletic Director’s meeting.

 

9.  Discussion of by-law proposal concerning juniors playing in sophomore games.

 

Mr. Brooks discussed his proposal concerning the use of juniors in sophomore games. (see the proposal) The current by-laws do not allow this unless both schools would agree. 

 

The discussed included football, volleyball and basketball since there is an SVC schedule for lower level games. 

 

John Overstreet will survey area conferences to see what their policy is on the matter. 

 

It was agreed to let the Athletic Directors discuss this and make any possible recommendations to the Principals at the May meeting.

 

10.  Scholarship update—start page

 

The SVC will review and select the 2008 Scholarship winners at the April 9, 2008 meeting.  The forms, process and other information is updated and online at the SVC page.

 

11.  Mr. Hawkins informed the Principals that Iroquois West was more than likely going to join the RVC for Soccer (Watseka also might) He asked that if this was approved by his Board of Education, that the SVC send a letter to the IHSA approving Iroquois West playing in the RVC.  This would also be done for Watseka if they also approve it.

 

The meeting adjourned at 9:40.
