PBL Jr. High Jazz

Information!

Dear Jazz Members and Parents,

     Competition season 2012 is quickly approaching! I have enclosed our tentative schedule, and a couple special practices on this information sheet. As always, I would love volunteers to help me chaperone our competition events. Please drop me an Email or give me a call if you can help! Thanks in advance!

 January – 30th - (Monday) – Special rehearsal/pizza practice: Jazz Band #1 will rehearse

            Right after school until 4:30. Both bands will eat pizza at 4:30. Jazz Band #2 will

            Rehearse from 4:50 until 5:30. Students who wish to eat pizza and soda should

February – 9th – (Thursday) – Special rehearsal/pizza practice: Jazz band #1 will

            Rehearse right after school until 4:15. We will eat pizza  from 4:15 until 4:35.

            Jazz Band #2 will rehearse from 4:35 until 5:30.

February - 11th – (Saturday) – EIU Jazz Festival, Charleston, IL.

            Depart PBL JH (West JH Band room door area) – 7:30AM

            JH Jazz Band #2 warm-ups: 9:50, performance: 10:15.

            JH Jazz Band #1 warm-ups: 11:05, performance: 11:30.

            HS Jazz Band warm-ups: 3:25, performance: 3:50.

            Students are encouraged to attend clinics and concerts throughout the day.

            we will also provide some fun time with students in the University student

            center where students may go bowling, play video games and eat. Students

            should bring money if they wish to participate in any of this.

            JH students wear the PBL Music polo, black dress pants, black dress shoes,

            black dress socks.  HS students wear concert dress black and white.

            Awards: 6:30 PM

            Arrive back to PBL JH: Approximately 8:45PM

February 25th – (Saturday) – Jazz in the Meadows (Rolling Meadows HS)

            Schedule is TBA. I will let you know as soon as I know.

March 10th – (Saturday) – Herscher HS Swing and Sing (All PBL Jazz Bands and

            Show Choirs) – Schedule is TBA.

March 24th – (Saturday) – ISU Jazz Festival (*NOTE* - This takes place at the

            end of our PBL spring break! Please check your schedules and let me know

            ASAP if you will be gone!)   Schedule is TBA.

April 14th – IHSA State Music Contest (High School only) Schedule is TBA.

April 28th – IESA State Music Contest (Jr. High Only) Schedule is TBA.

            * - Later on this evening, could be the tentative Champaign Central

            H.S. Jazz Festival followed by our annual jazz pizza party.

May 19th – Jr. High performance at the Salute to Veteran’s lasagna dinner.

            Students arrive at 4:30 and perform at 5:00

May 20th – Jazz in the Park – (Pells Park, Paxton) Students arrive at 5:30 and

            perform at 6:00 PM

Congratulations to our 2010 IMEA honors winners!

Jessi Bergman-Trumpet, Lydia Blum-Flute, and Jonah Wilson-Trombone  - IMEA Concert Band

* - IMEA (Illinois Music Educator's Association) divides the state of Illinois into districts. Our district, (central Illinois), is comprised of 42 schools. These schools in our district send approximately 600 students each year to audition for spots in these coveted bands. Congratulations to our PBL honor students!!

ALUMNI!

We are always proud of our PBL alumni. 67 alumni have gone on to perform in collegiate bands through the years! This year, many of our former PBL band students continue to enjoy playing in university bands. Lindsay Riblet is majoring in music and performing in many of her University band and choral ensembles. Zach Healy-Hilligoss is majoring in music education and performs with the ISU bands, and Joanna Skonberg and Mackenzie Williams have performed also at ISU. Erik Nuss, Devin Bergman, Tim Knilands and Lindsay Belanger are enjoying their membership in the Marching Illini. Darren Jarboe is performing and minoring in music at Rose-Hulman University. Kelli Breymeyer played flute at Valparaiso University. Adam Carlson has performed with the U.S. Naval Academy drum and bugle corps, and their jazz band. Aubrey Carlson has performed with the George Washington University bands. Nolan Lee played trumpet with the Knox College Jazz Ensemble and traveled to Spain with the band! Ben Mehlan is performing in the Memphis University marching band along with many of their other ensembles. PBL alumni are encouraged to e-mail Mrs. Nuss with information and photos to place on this website.
