About the Library

Keys to a successful project

bullet

Be clear about your project

bullet

Think “outside the box”

bullet

Do not expect to find the answer itself

bullet

Pace yourself

bullet

Use all possible sources

Print Resources

bullet

General Encyclopedias-

Give background information.  Not necessarily current information.

bullet

Special Encyclopedias/ Reference books

More specific information.  Many are current.

bullet

Books

More detailed information, as well as background.  Many give good ideas for projects.

bullet

Magazines

Current information.  We do not have too many titles.

Computer Resources

bullet

CD-ROM’s

Much of the same information as print material, with pictures and some sound- now may be outdated.

bullet

Internet

Many good sites from school districts (see below).  Watch the accuracy.

bullet

Data bases

Should be primary source! Information already chosen for accuracy, and timeliness!

Extra-Library Resources

bullet

Interlibrary loan

If we don’t have it, we may be able to get it from another library.  I need a lot of notice and there is no guarantee that the material will come in time.

bullet

Public Library

May have resources we don’t.

bullet

Experts

People who work in the field or in the companies usually are eager to help.

It may take some time to get a response.  Be clear, concise, and polite.
