How many items may I have at one time?

All students may have up to four items at a time. This includes books,
music CD's, and audio books. Teachers and staff may check out as many as
needed.

How long may I have these checked out?

All books are due on a Wednesday, no matter which day they were borrowed.
The loan period is from 22 days (if checked out on a Tuesday) to 28 days (if
checked out on a Wednesday). You need to pick up a "date due slip" that has
the date by which the items need to be returned.

If the items are due and I still want/ need to have these, may I renew them?

Absolutely! At this time, you will need to bring the items in with your
library card and have the librarian renew them for one more period of time.
This should be done *before* the items become overdue. You may also log
on to your Follett Destiny Library Catalog account using your log-in and password
(provided once school begins) and renew your materials from home.

What happens if I don't return the items on time?

Since all items are due on Wednesday, if they are not returned or renewed by
the end of school that day, you will receive an overdue notice in your first-
hour class on Thursday morning. At that time you have until the end of
school the following Monday to return/ renew your items without incurring a fine. This is
called a "three-day grace period".

And if I don't return or renew my items by the end of school the following Monday?

Starting on the Tuesday after your items were due, there will now be a fine
of $.25 per day per item from the due date. This fine will keep adding up
until you return or renew your items. In addition, a master list will be posted
around the school of all students who owe items and/or fines. Teachers also
receive this list and notify students. At this point I personally remind student
through face-to-face contact and the daily announcements.

Each consecutive Thursday, if you still have overdue items and/or fines, you would
again receive an individual notice, but at that time you could also more
serious consequences.

What if I *STILL* don't clear up my library matters?

After two individual notices, personal reminders from the teachers and from
me, AND your name posted on the master list twice, I will contact your
parents and let them know what is going on. As a last resort, you will be
serving after-school detentions until you've cleared everything up.

May I work off my fine?

Absolutely! Any student who has a library fine may work off his/her fine
after school. I have plenty of jobs that need to be done. You must arrange
this with me *before* it becomes a problem.

How do I get to work in the library during my study hall?

Any student who would like to work in the library each quarter must have at
least a C+ in all subjects *and* be approved by all teachers. If you would
like to apply, listen for the "Library Worker Announcement" at the beginning
of each quarter and then pick up and return an application.

May I check out music CD's?

Yes. We have quite a variety from Rap to Jazz to Classical to "Oldies".
They are checked out for the same amount of time as books.

How long can I be in the library on a pass?

If you have a "Book Pass", you have 10 minutes from the time you leave your
classroom (according to the time the teacher writes on your pass). If you
would like a quiet place to study or read, request a "Study Pass" from your
teacher and then come in within the first 10 minutes of the period. You will
stay until the bell rings to end the period. "Internet Passes" are good
for the entire period unless there is a waiting list. These must be filled
out by the *assigning* teacher and signed by your study hall teacher.

What special programs does the library run?

( http://wwww.rcyrba.org ) and our own local Paw Power Book Award. For more
information see the "Programs" tab on this site.

Do you have contests?

reading contests, guessing contests and many more- all aimed at promoting
reading!

Does PBL Junior High do the Accelerated Reader Program?

Any student may read any Accelerated Reader books to earn points for the AR
Store. At present, we have over 3100 quizzes covering a variety of topics,
authors and reading levels.

Tell me about the AR Store .

At the end of every quarter, beginning in October, the library sponsors the
Accelerated Reader Store. Students may choose to spend their points on any
number of items from school supplies to food to electronics to sports
items. At the December store, the students may choose from a number of
items that can be used for family Christmas presents.

Items for the Stores are donated by faculty and staff and are also purchased
by using some of the profits from the Book Fairs.

Can I donate items to the AR Stores?

Yes! I welcome any donations! Clearance areas and special sales are great!

Can I make suggestions on books to buy?

That's where I get many ideas for new books! All I ask is that you
write the titles down (I have a bad memory) and give me the author if you
can, too. Email works, too!
