Band Parent Meeting

9/15/2011

When there is a posting to the List Serve and you wish to reply, please click on the Person’s email address that posted the comment and DO NOT hit reply to sender or reply to group.  The list serve is not a typical email address.  It goes to many people and not just band members.

The treasures past –Mary Beth and Present-Kathy Blackford- will hopefully meet Saturday the 17th to make the final switch with signatures and positions.

Marla Knuth purchased 144 flags that will be sold at the game on Friday the 16th and if any are left she plans on taking them to the band competition on Saturday and selling them there.  We ask that the flags not be flown during the “Taps” portion of the show but held high  and when the “Stars and Stripes” portion start playing to wave them enthusiastically and proudly!

It will not be announced that the audience stand during the “Taps” portion of the show so we ask that all band parents please stand at the first note and encourage all that are sitting around to stand also.

In the past all the Pork Chop Sales went to the General Band Fund as a way to generate funds.  Over the past several years that has been used as a “trip account” fund raiser.  It has been brought to the attention of the BPA that maybe sales need to be used as a General Band Fund again as all other fund raising is focused on “trip accounts”.   It was decided that the treasurer will list what is paid to workers for their trip accounts and decision will be made at a later meeting.

Marsha has resigned her chair person position of PBL Concessions.  Although it is pretty self-running we will need another person to oversee the concessions.  A suggestion was made that instead of one person to oversee the whole year maybe a person for each sport would be easier.  No one objected.  Becky Hill is going to oversee the rest of volleyball season.  Diane will oversee Cross Country and Shannon Stocking is going to oversee HS Girls and Boys Basketball.  Kasi Schwarz is going to make a list with instructions on how to set up and what needs to be done that will be at the concession. This will make it easy for anyone that has never worked a concession to come in and do it.

The U of I concession stand is having a really difficult time finding workers.  They had no workers for Saturday the 17th scheduled and no workers for Saturday the 24th scheduled.  We are guaranteed at least $400 a game.  The money you earn from these games go directly into your child’s trip account.  The problem is most of the kids that will be going on the trip in 4 years are still in JH.  We need a way to reach the parents of the Junior High kids to make sure they understand this is their way to make money for their children and ultimately their decision as to whether they want to keep the stand. We are obligated to run the stand this year but we need to seriously think about next year.  If we decide not to keep the stand then we will probably not get the stand back.   Tina Sutton asked the Junior Prom committee if they were willing to help out at the stands and they proposed they take the stand for the 24th game and they work it themselves without any band parents except Mark Wieneke, manager of the U of I Concession Stand, taking all profits they earned. Since no one was scheduled to work on the 24th and with the problem of trying to getting workers, no one present was against letting the Junior Prom work the 24th concession.   Angie Wieneke was going to contact Lisa Hood, Junior Prom Committee Leader to work out the details.  So keep in mind WE NEED PEOPLE!!!

Mr. Hess sent out a “dream” email about being invited to Hawaii.  Many people expressed their thoughts about wanting to go.  It would take at least $270,00.00 to fund this trip.

Mr. Hess talked about an Honor Flight that is leaving Willard Airport in October.  It is a flight that will be taking WWII Veterans to see the WWII Memorial for the first time.  He would like to be the band that plays for them either when they depart or when they return.  He has contacted the airport and is waiting for their reply.

The band is in need of some equipment.  It was suggested that maybe a “General Fund” Fund Raiser could be done in the HS since those students will not be going on a trip in 4 years in the fall and in the spring the JH band can do a Trip Account fund raiser.

The motion for the HS fall General Fund  Fund Raiser was made and all agreed.  This fund raiser is going to be the Butter Braids.

Phil Jarboe then made a motion to have JH do a 2nd fund raiser in the spring for the kids Trip Account. Stacy Moor then second the motion.  It is undecided what this fund raiser will be.

Debbie Eastin will contact the Butter Braid representative for the fall fund raiser and will contact a Fannie Mae representative for a possible spring fund raiser.

It was also discussed possibly have a Monical’s Night as a fund raiser.  Debbie is also going to check on that.

With no other business meeting was closed.
