IP Tutorial 3 Open IP5.0 Open View, Workspace , click on Coordinates, Rulers, Gridlines ,and XY axis. Now you will see the objects sitting on graph paper. Draw a ramp for a ball to roll down, by drawing a large right triangle, using the polygon tool. Draw a ball. It should look like this.
Double click on the ball to open the Properties Window. Place the ball at X position = 0, Y position = 0 . Now move ramp under the ball so the ball is at the top of the ramp. Click on ball. Go to Measure, Velocity, All. The velocity graph should appear. Move it to the top right of the screen. Click off the Vx. Vy and V angle, so only average Velocity will be measured. Click on ball. Go to Measure, Position, X position. Move this graph next to the velocity graph. Go to World, Accuracy, set Animation Step at 5/sec. (bottom number) Not 5 sec Run until ball reaches bottom of ramp. Stop. Reset. Highlight both graphs. (Click on the Velocity graph, hold down shift key , and click the x position graph. Go to Edit , Copy Data. Minimize IP and open Microsoft Excel . Edit. Paste. The data should appear in a table with columns (A) Time ,(B) V, (F) Time , (G) X. However the values are not under the correct headings. To move the table to the top of the page, left click on row1 and drag to row 3. Right click and delete. This should move the table to the top of the page. To correct columns, left click on column F and right click , delete. Now to move x position data avet to column C , left click on column c , right click , delete three times. Now the x position values are in column c. Type x as its heading
To make a graph of this data, you must open the chart wizard in Microsoft Excel. Chart Wizard can be found in the tool bar or under Insert. Left click the Chart Wizard, left click the Line type, left click the first graph in the second row ( line with markers displayed at each data value), left click Next. Left click Series at the top. Left click on Remove to remove all graphs. Left click Add. Type velocity in as the name. Left click on the little red chart at the right end of the values box. Left click on the first value under the V column and drag down to the last value ( you must hold down on the clicker while you drag down, then release). Move the mouse up to the top of the page to the and click on the little red chart . You will now see a line graph of the V. Click on the little red chart to the right of Category (X) axis labels. Left click on the first value under the t column and drag down to the last value ( you must hold down on the clicker while you drag down) Move the mouse up to the top of the page to the and click on the little red chart . You will now see a line graph of the V vs time with numbers on the axes. Click next. Type Time for the X axis and Velocity for the Y axis. Click Next, then Finish. The graph should appear on the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet next to the Data. Click on the graph and move it next to the data columns. Click in the open white area so the graph is not highlited. Now make a second graph of x position vs time, following the procedure above. Left click on Remove to remove all graphs. Left click Add. Type x position in as the name. Left click on the little red chart at the right end of the values box. (notice it is not a straight line) Click on the little red chart to the right of Category (X) axis labels. You will now see a line graph of the x position vs time with numbers on the axes. Click next. Type Time for the X axis and x position for the Y axis. Click Next, then Finish. The graph should appear on the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet next to the Data. Click on the graph and move it below the other graph.. Click in the open white area so the graph is not highlited. You can print this table and graphs by going to File , Print. To enlarge the graph click on bottom right corner of the graph and drag diagonally. Right click on the White area in the Graph ( not in the grey area of the graph), left click on Copy. Reopen IP and click on Edit ,then Paste to paste the graph on your IP drawing.
