The PBL High School Student of the Month award recognizes students who demonstrate a strong combination of academic excellence and leadership. Student of the Month is sponsored by Bank of Pontiac.
To be nominated, a student must meet the following four criteria:
Reliability: Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.
Engagement: Show a positive attitude, intellectual curiosity, and a strong work ethic in class.
Role Model: Be a positive influence on peers through actions, words, and dedication.
Leadership: Exhibit initiative and leadership, whether through a formal role (like club president) or informally by guiding projects and helping classmates.
In short, the award honors a student who is an engaged, reliable, and positive leader both in and out of the classroom. Teachers nominate students each month, with the winner receiving $50 and the other nominees receiving a $5 gift certificate from Just Hamburgers.
The September Student of the Month winner was Alexander Jones! Hear about why from nominating staff member, Mrs. Mutchmore.
Alex has demonstrated outstanding leadership, communication skills, responsibility, and initiative while helping with our Booster Club Sports Program and senior banner project. He has taken on an important role in coordinating and taking pictures to make sure the project continued to move forward. When our original picture day and Pork Chop Kickoff were canceled due to flooding, Alex did not let the unexpected setback stop him. Instead, he stepped up and communicated with a local business as well as PBL administration to help coordinate a new plan and accomplish the task. Alex has shown that he is willing to take responsibility, communicate professionally with adults, problem-solve when challenges arise, and follow through to get the job done. His willingness to step up and help our school and athletic programs is a great example of the leadership qualities we strive to see in our students.
Also nominated for the month of September was Grace Hughes.
Congratulations to both nominees! You make us proud!
