Sofia Rebollo Women's History Month

Sofia Rebollo-Olivares is one of our 8th grade students who has a strong voice in our Junior High. She is part of our Junior High Jazz band, Scholastic Bowl and sports! As part of our celebrating Women's History Month in the Junior High we asked Sofia Rebollo-Olivares the following. "Who was a woman in history that she found inspiring, whether she was a leader, a trailblazer, a performer, an athlete, or anyone else in history?" Below is her response.

“To answer the question, of a woman in history whose story I have found inspiring is a woman named Sacagawea. I remember learning about her in 3rd grade, and she made an impact on me. Sacagawea was a Lemhi Shoshone woman who played a crucial role in the Lewis and Clark expedition in 1804-1806. She was the only woman on the Lewis and Clark expedition. Her translating skills, calming presence as well as her deep knowledge of the terrain proved her to be an invaluable asset to the expedition. Sacagawea did this all while carrying her newborn son on her back. I believe she was a very remarkable woman, because she proved herself and she gained so much respect from the men on the expedition that they allowed counting her vote on important things. I believe she should be an inspiration to women everywhere.”
