8th Grade Field Trip

PENFIELD, IL — On Thursday, April 23rd, 8th grade students from PBL Junior High swapped their desks for the great outdoors, embarking on a hands-on science adventure at the Middle Fork State Fish and Wildlife Area. The trip served as an interactive conclusion to the students' recent studies in “Module 2-Water and Climate” and “Module 3-Impacts on the Environment” within their new Inspire Science curriculum.

The day featured various outdoor activities designed to bring Earth science concepts to life. Students utilized real pollution testing materials to collect water quality data, directly applying scientific principles to monitor and minimize human impact on the environment.  The 8th graders spent time exploring the various trails and hiking through the scenic prairie.

For many, the highlight of the day was the fishing activity, which allowed students to enjoy the outdoors while learning a new skill. This provided a unique opportunity for several students to experience fishing for the first time.

No field trip is complete without a great meal, and the group enjoyed a classic cookout in the picnic area. A special thanks goes to the dedicated parents who joined the trip to help out and grill hot dogs to perfection for the hungry young scientists.

This memorable experience was made possible through the support of the PBL Education Foundation. It is incredible how much funding the PBL Education Foundation provides for unique student and staff experiences, generously supporting all PBL schools each year. By providing funding for opportunities that typically fall outside of district and school budgets, they continue to make a lasting impact on our students' education.
