PAXTON, IL — The PBL Junior High Math Team has officially crunched the numbers, and the results are in: it was a great year for our student mathematicians. Under the dedicated leadership of Mrs. Sawyer, students have been meeting on Thursdays throughout the school year to sharpen their skills and prepare for the prestigious Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) contests.
The ICTM competition, a staple of Illinois academic excellence since 1980, challenges students to go beyond the standard classroom curriculum. The contest emphasizes high-level team cooperation, individual problem-solving speed, and mastery of advanced mathematical concepts. This year, PBL students rose to the challenge, competing against top schools from across the state.
State Rankings:
7th Grade Team: 2nd Place in State
8th Grade Team: 6th Place in State
6th Grade Team: 11th Place in State
"I am incredibly proud of every student on this team," said Mrs. Sawyer. "They consistently showed up on Thursdays ready to work, and their dedication to tackling complex problems really paid off. Seeing their growth throughout the year has been a highlight for me."
