In Mrs. Dirks' 4th grade ELA classes, students recently read a picture book titled Weslandia. In the story, a young boy (Wesley) feels like he doesn't fit in, so he sets out to create his own perfect world. Students worked in groups to come up with their own perfect world. Each civilization had to have a source of food, shelter, transportation, and education of some sort. It was a great lesson in creativity and cooperation!

Mrs. Talbert’s Kindergarten class was lucky this year to have Mrs. Cara Fitton volunteer in their classroom! She would work in small groups and read a book or do a small project with the students. Mrs. Fitton is a retired PBL teacher. Thank you for your time Mrs. Fitton. PBL is grateful for volunteers!

Students at Clara Pete Elementary have been learning all about chickens in an exciting, interactive way. As part of their unit on animals, first graders explored chicken habitats, food, and the life cycle. Mrs. Jones’s class, with help from other first grade classes, took their learning a step further by incubating real eggs in the classroom! The students eagerly watched and waited as the chicks developed, eventually witnessing the incredible moment when they hatched. After, Mrs. Jones's class cared for the baby chicks, learning responsibility and compassion along the way. It was an unforgettable experience that brought science to life!

This past week, our first-grade students had the amazing opportunity to visit Gibson Area Hospital! They explored several departments, including radiology, surgery, and x-ray, and even got a special look inside an ambulance. The students learned how the hospital stays stocked with essential supplies and how the kitchen staff works hard every day to feed patients, visitors, and hospital staff.
A big thank you to Gibson Area Hospital for hosting our students and giving them such a valuable behind-the-scenes experience. We’re grateful for your time and dedication—our students learned so much!

On Earth Day, the third-grade classes of Mrs. Waugh and Mrs. Bennett did a fun project. They took old plastic grocery bags and made them into jump ropes!

Students in Mrs. Goodens Kindergarten class performed “vowel surgery” today. Special thanks to Gibson Area Hospital for their donation.

Celebrating some serious reading accomplishments! Last week we hosted our Bluestem Challenge Party for our fantastic 3rd and 4th graders. These students went above and beyond, reading at least 7 books from the Bluestem list – Illinois' state reader's choice program for grades 3-5.
