At PBL Schools students are taking the pledge to Say Something! When they pledge to Say Something they are promising to... 1. Look for the warning signs, signals, and threats. 2. Act immediately and take it seriously. 3. Say something to a trusted adult. When students do these things it will help create a safer, healthier school.

During March 4th - March 8th the PBL schools will be participating in Say Something Week alongside thousands of other schools across the country. Students and staff will participate in a week of activities that will raise awareness about how to create a safer, healthier school, and build a culture where students and staff lookout for each other. We will be focusing on how to build a community of upstanders, and how to acknowledge the trusted adults in our school. Stay tuned for more activities at each school throughout the week!

During advisory this week at PBL Junior High School the students are learning about Personal Digital Media Balance. Most of us use a lot of digital media in our daily lives -- even when we don't realize it! Having a balance between online and offline time is important, but healthy media balance might look different for everyone. This cool tool will help students create a personalized plan for healthy media use. Are you wondering how you can help your children at home with digital media balance? 5Essentials Parent Survey: We would like to invite you to provide feedback to assist us in driving our school improvement efforts. The survey is called the 5Essentials Survey, which will help schools and districts identify areas of strength and those in need of support. There is an optional parent survey that goes along with the teacher and student survey. PBL schools will get a report from the parent survey if the school achieves a 20% response rate. We are asking that you please take a few minutes to complete the survey.

We are very excited to announce that we will be hosting an upcoming author visit! New York Times Best-Selling Author, Margaret Peterson Haddix will be visiting PBL Junior High on March 6th to speak to our students! She has written about 50 books for children which tend to fall into the science fiction and mystery genres and a couple of her most recognizable titles include Among the Hidden and Found. As some of you may know this week is National School Counseling Week. We want to thank our counselors, Kristin Oyer, Lisa Niewold and Stacy Johnson, for being there to support our students. This week they worked hard to help our 8th graders prepare for their next big step.
The Junior High Student Council Penny Wars are in full swing. The Penny Wars will continue through the month of February. Each day the student council sets up jars in the commons during lunch and the hallways during arrival for each grade level to bring their spare change and put it towards a great cause. All proceeds of this year's penny wars will support the St. Louis Children's Hospital. 1 penny equals 1 point for their grade level. If students bring in nickels, dimes, quarters, or any type of dollar bill they can subtract points from the other grade levels. So far the students have raised $338.65. Thanks to our student council members and their sponsors for creating this great opportunity for our students to give back!
A special shoutout to our ECCA, CEO and ICE students. They joined in on the fun for our 8th Grade Career Fair. They held presentations on our different programs that we have to aid career development.
Students had fun at our 8th Grade Career Fair. They had hands-on experience with our career professionals. This was an incredible event that went great! We look forward to having our local businesses for next year.
